LIFE SMART IAS

Project Overview

LIFE SMART IAS is a European initiative focused on the upscaling and replication of an advanced smart system for targeted monitoring and life trapping of invasive alien species (IAS), such as coypu and muskrat. The project builds upon the technological and ecological success of the previous LIFE MICA and Reeds for Life project.

Key Objectives

  • Enhance and finalize four core technological components developed in LIFE MICA
  • Create comprehensive training and operational documentation
  • Develop a practical replication guide for broader adoption
  • Implement a strong dissemination and awareness campaign
  • Design a sustainable exploitation strategy for post-project continuity

Innovative Tools

  • eDNA Monitoring: Use of ddPCR for high-precision species detection and quantification
  • Smart Life Traps: AI-driven traps designed to target specific IAS while avoiding bycatch
  • Cloud-Based System: Real-time data collection, analysis, and visualization platform
  • User Interface: Web and mobile apps for efficient stakeholder interaction
